Manchester United fans can't believe what happened to Donny van de Beek against Chelsea

Manchester United and Chelsea didn't serve up a classic by any means on Saturday evening.

Despite the likes of Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, and Christian Pulisic all featuring at Old Trafford, it was a case of both defences on top.

Thiago Silva was highlighted as Chelsea's best player, while Victor Lindelof emerged with credit from the United side of things.

With that said, there's one decision that has baffled those connected to the Red Devils.

And that's no appearance off the bench for summer signing Donny van de Beek - who scored on his debut against Crystal Palace last month.

In fact, Gary Neville suggested that the Netherland international doesn't appear to be in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans at the moment.

"What is a little bit of a mystery is the use of van de Beek since being signed for £40m," Neville said whilst on Sky Sports co-commentator duty. "He doesn’t seem to be at the forefront of Ole’s plans in every game.

"It’s a bit of a mystery, that one. The more he doesn’t start, the more he doesn’t come on, well, a £40m-player, ordinarily, you get him into the team.

"He must be thinking, ‘What am I doing here?’ at this moment in time."

As for some Man United fans, they took to social media and shared their displeasure at van de Beek being an unused substitute against Chelsea.

Even some Chelsea fans felt bad for van de Beek.

@grbchk said: "Ajax scoring 13 goals in a match, and van de Beek in an awful cold rainy evening in Manchester sitting in the bench, for one of the biggest games of the season.

"Have to feel sad for him."

@CarefreeEdition said: "Van de Beek could’ve been winning 13-0 today under a top quality Manager, instead he was rotting on the bench in the pouring rain, watching complete dross."
