The Brazilian started the game against the Magpies, his first Premier League start of the season, but gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer no food for thought with his dismal showing.
Fred had more touches of the ball than any United player apart from Harry Maguire and Ashley Young but failed to play a single key pass from midfield.
He attempted zero dribbles and left Andreas Pereira in disbelief when he failed to control a simply pass when United were searching for an equaliser.
The £52million signing from Shahktar Donetsk was heavily criticised by United fans who were eager to see him given a chance to impress earlier in the season.
However, following his latest awful performance, they may prefer to see him remain on the substitutes' bench.
