Manchester United fans believe there is a transfer alternative to Harry Maguire

Manchester United fans believe that Portuguese centre-back Ruben Dias could be an alternative to United's other defensive transfer targets this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be handed the funds to make significant upgrades to his United squad this summer and he's already got off to a promising start after capturing promising youngsters Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Yet there is plenty more work to be done and the heart of his defence appears to be an area in which the Norwegian particularly wants to strengthen.

With moves for Matthijs de Ligt and Kalidou Koulibaly not getting off the ground, Harry Maguire of Leicester City has emerged as the number one target.

The Foxes rejected an opening bid of £70million for the 26-year-old but United are expected to continue their pursuit know that he won't come on the cheap.

However, supporters believe Dias may be a much more cost effective solution who's just as good.

The 22-year-old has been a rock for Benfica all season as they won the league ahead of bitter rivals Porto, playing the full 90 minutes in all but one of his 55 appearances this past season.

He missed just five games all season too, three through suspension and two cup games in which he was rested.

The young centre-back particularly impressed in the Nations League final, in which he kept a clean sheet against the Netherlands as Portugal won 1-0 to become the inaugural champions.

Reports claim that Dias' release clause from Benfica is €60m and United fans think the club should make the signing.
