Manchester United fans believe Angel Gomes replacement is already at the club

Manchester United fans believe youngster Hannibal Mejbri can step up and take Angel Gomes' place if the 19-year-old confirms his exit from the club.

Gomes' contract at the club expires at the end of the month and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that no breakthrough had been reached in the club's negotiations with the youngster.

Solskjaer said when asked whether Gomes will leave: "Got no news, nothing.

"So doesn't look like it. To be honest, I've not heard from them last night or this morning, it seems like they haven't managed to agree so the answer is probably short and yes, then."

Gomes has been with United since the age of six and was regarded as one of the club's most promising youngsters but has struggled to impose himself when given the chance in the first-team.

United supporters believe the time is right for Mejbri to move into first-team contention if Gomes decides to leave.

Mejbri, 17, joined from Monaco last summer and has impressed in the development sides this season.

The coronavirus pandemic saw the U23 and U18 Premier League season cut short and Mejbri is yet to take part in a first-team training session.

Nevertheless, the Frenchman posted a video to his official Instagram account showcasing his work with a personal trainer and United supporters noticed he had added significant amounts of muscle to his slender frame, perhaps preparing for the physicality of the Premier League.
