Manchester United fans attack Ed Woodward's house with flares

Manchester United have confirmed several supporters attacked the home of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward on Tuesday evening.

Videos surfaced of balaclava-clad fans launching flares at Woodward's Cheshire home, though it is understood Woodward nor his family were at home. Woodward is married with two young daughters.

One video - posted on the social media site Snapchat - was accompanied by the caption 'Ed Woodward's gonna die'.

United said in a statement: "Manchester United Football Club have tonight been made aware of the incident outside the home of one of our employees. We know that the football world will unite behind us as we work with Greater Manchester Police to identify the perpetrators of this unwarranted attack.

"Anybody found guilty of a criminal offence, or found to be trespassing on this property, will be banned for life by the club and may face prosecution. Fans expressing opinion is one thing, criminal damage and intent to endanger life is another. There is simply no excuse for this."

United supporters have aired sinister songs about Woodward, 48, in recent matches and he was not in attendance for the last three games against Tranmere Rovers, Burnley and Liverpool. United travel to Manchester City for their League Cup semi-final second leg on Wednesday evening.

Woodward and United's owners, the Glazer family, have been targeted by supporters at home and away this month after accounts registered at Companies House revealed Woodward was paid £3.16million last season - despite earning £1 million less than the year before.

At Prenton Park on Sunday, United fans chanted 'Build a bonfire', 'Love United, hate Glazers', 'We want United back', 'Every single one of us f------ hates Glazers', 'F--- off Woodward' and  'F--- off Glazers'. A number of United supporters twirled green and gold scarves above their heads and a green smoke bomb was also let off.

The chanting was widespread in two of United's home games against Norwich City and Burnley this month and Solskjaer had to address them again following the 6-0 thrashing of Tranmere.

"We're just going to keep on working and get the results right and moving the club forward," Solskjaer said. "Supporters are always happier when you win games, when you're successful. So we'll keep on working to get results."
