Manchester United fans are all saying the same thing after Matty Longstaff's debut goal

Manchester United fans believe the club targeted the wrong Longstaff brother in the summer.

The Red Devils were linked with a summer move for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff but were put off by the Magpies' asking price.

Longstaff lined up against Manchester United for the first time since that summer of speculation but it was his brother Matty who stole the headlines as Newcastle secured a vital 1-0 win.

The 19-year-old lined up alongside Sean in the centre of Newcastle's midfield as they became the youngest brothers to start a Premier League game together since Gary and Phil Neville in 1995.

Making his Premier League debut, Matty Longstaff hit the bar in the first half, scored his first senior goal in the second half and was crowned man-of-the-match after a tireless display at St James' Park.

His performance caught the eye of many pundits and it proved to be a worthwhile gamble by manager Steve Bruce to throw him into the starting XI.

It also got Manchester United fans talking on social media. The club have made their worst start to a season since 1989, have been left to rue decisions made in the transfer market and fans joked they made another mistake by targeted the wrong Longstaff brother in the summer.
