When Jose Mourinho was sacked Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was favourite to land the Manchester United manager's job on a permanent basis.
The Tottenham boss was repeatedly asked about the speculation and even when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was given the interim manager's job in December the understanding was still that Pochettino was first choice to be permanent manager.
However, after Solskjaer won 14 of his 19 matches in charge and booked United's place in the Champions League quarter final the Norwegian was given the job for three-years.
United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward added: "Since coming in as Caretaker Manager in December, the results Ole has delivered speak for themselves.
"More than just performances and results, Ole brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and as a coach, coupled with a desire to give young players their chance and a deep understanding of the culture of the club. This all means that he is the right person to take Manchester United forward."
And the announcement has got United fans saying the same thing about Pochettino.
