Manchester United fans angry with the Premier League after Brentford fixture postponement

Manchester United fans are angry at the Premier League after Tuesday's game against Brentford was postponed.

United suffered a Covid-19 outbreak following their 1-0 Premier League win at Norwich at Carrow Road at the weekend.

Club sources confirmed that a small number of players and staff tested positive, which led to the Carrington training ground being shut down to prevent further infection.

It was then announced on late Monday night, around midnight, that the Reds' fixture versus Brentford had been postponed.

“Manchester United can confirm that our Premier League fixture at Brentford FC, on Tuesday 14 December at 19:30, has been postponed and will be rescheduled in due course," United's club statement read.

“Given cancellation of training and disruption to the squad, and with the health of players and staff the priority, the Club requested the match to be rearranged. The Premier League Board took the decision to postpone based on guidance from medical advisors.

“Manchester United regrets the inconvenience caused to Brentford FC and to the fans of both clubs by Covid-19.”

United fans took to social media to react to the decision with some making their feelings felt over the timing of the news. The decision to postpone was confirmed at 10 minutes to midnight on Monday and supporters suggested that was far too late.

The Premier League will now increase the frequency of both Lateral Flow and PCR Covid-19 testing of players and staff, with United waiting to see whether their game against Brighton on Saturday will go ahead.
