Manchester United fans angered by VAR no-show for goal in defeat to Aston Villa

Manchester United slumped to a desperately disappointing 1-0 defeat on Saturday lunchtime at home to Aston Villa.

The loss now marks their third in four games, halted only by the victory at West Ham United last weekend that could have so easily have ended in a draw.

With Manchester City's convincing away win to Chelsea, United are handed a lifeline at the top of the league. Still, with their neighbours delivering their most impressive performance of the season to date, there is concern amongst the Reds fans that they could soon be left behind.

With United scheduled to face Everton, Leicester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in October, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will have to kick into gear quickly if they do not want to see their title challenge evaporate.

However, Solskjaer and the United fanbase have expressed their discontent with Kortney Hause's winning goal, suggesting VAR should have stepped in due to Ollie Watkins occupying David de Gea from an offside position.

Here is what the United faithful had to say:

There is a clear consensus among these United supporters that VAR should not have allowed the goal. However, in the same breath, most admit that United should not have been reliant on VAR to rescue a point at home to Villa.

Solskjaer is in complete agreement with the sentiment of the fans, declaring: "Obviously disappointed because the goal is offside. It's unfortunate to have that decision against you."

Bruno Fernandes had the opportunity to rescue a point in injury time from the penalty spot but blazed over with the pressure on. With Cristiano Ronaldo bearing down his countryman's neck, it is expected that Solskjaer will hand the penalty-taking reins to the 36-year-old, who has a reputation for netting high-stakes spot-kicks.
