Manchester United's fans and players were left frustrated after referee Craig Pawson opted to halt a counter-attack by blowing for half-time against West Brom.
After Mbaye Diagne had headed West Brom into an early lead, United equalised shortly before half-time when Bruno Fernandes produced a superb volley from Luke Shaw's cross.
The Baggies responded relatively brightly to the goal, winning three corners in a row, although they took some time over setting up for each of the separate set-pieces.
After the third corner, Anthony Martial intercepted a pass from Ainsley Maitland-Niles and looked to launch a counter-attack, only for referee Pawson to blow for half-time.
It left United fans and players exasperated at the timing.
Whilst the correct amount of stoppage time had been played, United were frustrated that Pawson had opted to blow the whistle on a promising break after West Brom had taken so long to set up for their corners.
After United had fallen behind and taken some time to get going, they ended the half on top and it was clearly a source of frustration that they were unable to be able to make the most of it by scoring a second goal.
IFAB rules state that referees must make allowances for time lost during the game, including 'any significant delay to a restart'.
The rules add that referees are entitled to increase the minimum amount of stoppage time shown by the fourth official but must not play less than that.
Pawson blew the whistle just nine seconds past the minimum two minutes that had been indicated.
