Manchester United fan who 'racially abused' Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold banned from Old Trafford

A Manchester United fan who is alleged to have hurled vile racist abuse at during Sunday's game has received an indefinite ban from Old Trafford.

The fan is said to have shouted obscene and racist language at the young Liverpool player during the first-half of the game at Old Trafford.

Security officials at the club became aware of the abuse and ejected a fan during the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The club then launched an investigation into the incident and scoured CCTV to trace the fan involved.

A spokesman for Manchester United has now confirmed that the fan has been banned from the ground.

Police were reportedly made aware of the incident and are looking into what happened.

A club statement read: "Racism and all forms of discrimination are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our club.

"This individual isn't welcome at Old Trafford."

United said the ban is subject to an appeal.

The statement added: "We want to reinforce that we will continue to take strong action against anyone who we identify has engaged in racist or discriminatory abuse, either online or at our matches."

The incident happened several days after a number of black England players were abused by fans during their Euro 2020 qualifier win over Bulgaria in Sofia.

The incident sparked widespread condemnation.
