Manchester United fan Conor McGregor sends five-word Chelsea message amid ownership talks

Manchester United fan and former two-division UFC World Champion Connor McGregor says he wishes to "explore" the possibility of taking over as the new owner at Chelsea.

In light of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Russian oligarchs in the United Kingdom have faced sanctions that have seen their assets frozen, which has saw Londoners owner Roman Abramovich come under pressure. Many expect the Chelsea owner to sell the club, with Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss revealing he's been offered the chance of buy as part of a consortium.

McGegor is a well-known United supporter and has previously flirted with buying a football club, even suggesting he could take over from the Glazers. With a number of potential buyers for Chelsea coming to the surface, the flamboyant fighter McGregor threw his hat into the ring to become the proprietor of the reigning Champions of Europe

He tweeted: "I wish to explore this. @ChelseaFC," accompanied by an image that saw the Ireland fighter send two messages which read: "Chelsea for sale £3bn (billion). Let's buy it."

McGregor is a self-confessed United fan and has revealed that his love for the club sparked from the likes of Denis Irwin and Roy Keane's successful spells at Old Trafford.

He said in 2021, via ManUtd.com : "I was attracted to the success and winning mentality of the club and people surrounded by United. Irish legends like Denis Irwin and Roy Keane were dedicated to their craft and had that winning mentality.

"Roy Keane was one of the best midfielders European football has ever seen. Opponents would be mentally beaten before they’d even stepped on to the pitch to face him."
