Manchester United facing January transfer decision on loan midfielder

Dylan Levitt's frustrating time on loan at Charlton Athletic continued as he was left on the bench at the weekend.

The Manchester United midfielder is one of many youngsters currently away from the club on loan and could not add to his three league appearances for the Addicks as they trounced Wimbledon 5-2.

It may be that United decide to terminate the loan in January to ensure Levitt can get regular football elsewhere.

Levitt's loan experience so far is in contrast to close friend James Garner's, with the latter now a regular fixture in a high-flying Watford side in the Championship. Garner played 89 minutes of the Hornets' hard-fought 1-0 win over Birmingham and is making strides in Hertfordshire. It's unlikely that he will be recalled in January.

United have been drawn against Watford in the FA Cup third round and although Garner will be ineligible for that game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer briefly talked up the 19-year-old at a recent press conference.

“Of course, we could have had an easier draw, but we’ll take a home one," he said on the game. "We know Watford are in a good moment. We’ve got Jimmy [Garner] there and he’s played well for them this season. We’ve been following him.”

Elsewhere at the weekend, Tahith Chong followed in the footsteps of his United teammates as he was on the losing side at RB Leipzig. Chong was a 72nd minute substitute for Werder Bremen in a 2-0 defeat to Leipzig. The Dutch winger began his Bremen career with a goal on debut but has struggled to nail down a regular spot in recent weeks.

The same can be said for on-loan goalkeeper Joel Pereira, who has been omitted from the Huddersfield matchday squad entirely of late. Terriers' boss Carlos Corberan has preferred Ben Hamer and Ryan Schofield to the United keeper for the most part this season. Fellow keeper Matej Kovar, however, is a regular on loan at Swindon, though couldn't prevent them falling to a 1-0 home defeat by Fleetwood on Saturday.

Diogo Dalot, on loan at AC Milan, was an unused sub at the weekend in their 2-2 draw with Parma, while Lazio's Andreas Pereira came on from the bench in a 2-1 defeat to Verona. Di'Shon Bernard helped Salford keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Cheltenham.
