Fred banned for two games

Manchester United’s decision to prevent Fred from representing Brazil over the international break will have ramifications, as the midfielder is set to be banned for two games.

The Brazilian Football Federation have triggered a FIFA rule to impose a “five-day ban” on Premier League sides, meaning United will be without Fred for Saturday’s game against Newcastle and the Champions League opener vs Young Boys days later.

The Red Devils stopped the 28-year-old from linking up with his national side, as it meant travelling to a red-list country and the subsequent 10-day isolation period Fred would have had to adhere to when he returned.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are fortunate they only have the one player missing, with rivals Manchester City may be without two starters and Liverpool are set to have three banned players unavailable this weekend.

Declan’s Rice impressive 2020 European Championship and strong start to the season has seen him once again linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Manchester Evening News understands that a potential deal has already been discussed between figureheads at United for the West Ham star.
