Manchester United expose Liverpool plan with shock Leicester City line-up

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stayed true to his threat of influencing Liverpool's Champions League qualification hopes by naming an effective reserve team against Leicester City this evening.

Solskjaer has prioritised Thursday's visit of their bitter North West rivals by making 10 changes from the side that won 3-1 at Aston Villa on Sunday.

With his team having been forced to play three games in five days after supporter protests prompted the postponement of last Sunday's Old Trafford clash with Liverpool, the United boss indicated "someone might not be happy" with his subsequent selections.

And he has handed 19-year-old winger Anthony Elanga a debut and given a first start to 18-year-old January arrival Amad Diallo.

Brandon Williams makes his first Premier League start of the season while Alex Tuanzebe's only previous top-flight start this campaign came in the shock January defeat at home to Sheffield United.

Liverpool are six points behind fourth-placed Leicester with a game in hand and United are expected to recall their first-choice players for Thursday's match against the six-time European champions.

While Harry Maguire was expected to be sidelined for the visit of his former club through injury, the majority of the changes are aimed at ensuring players are rested.

And speaking last week, Solskjaer said: "Someone might not be happy with my team selection for one or two games because it might affect whoever gets into the Champions League.

"That's not my problem. That's everyone else's problem.

"I don't know how you can defend playing these three games in such a short space of time."
