Manchester United expecting Zidane Iqbal and Brandon Williams to stay on transfer deadline day

Zidane Iqbal is expected to stay at Manchester United unless there is a last-minute change to his situation.

Iqbal, 19, is eager to head out on loan but United have been reluctant to let him leave as their midfield department is light.

Christian Eriksen sustained an ankle injury in the FA Cup win over Reading on Saturday and left Old Trafford on crutches.

Although sources say there is ample time for United to relent, Iqbal is currently due to remain in Erik ten Hag's squad for the remainder of the season.

Iqbal impressed in pre-season but has not made a competitive appearance since his United debut against Young Boys in the Champions League group stage in December 2021.

On at least two occasions this season, Iqbal has been withdrawn from the United Under-21 side the night before first-team matches only for him not to make the matchday squad.

Sources also expect Brandon Williams to remain at United. Williams has only appeared once for the club since May 2021, having spent last season on loan with Norwich. He was sidelined between July and December through injury.

Williams, 22, returned to the United squad last week as Luke Shaw was unwell and Diogo Dalot still injured.
