Manchester United 'expected to sign' Erling Braut Haaland in January and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have emerged as the front runners to sign Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland - according to reports in Italy.

The youngster is one of Europe's hottest properties as a result of his extraordinary form for the Austrian champions.

Haaland has netted 12 goals in 10 league games this season as well as six goals in just three Champions League showings.

Corriere dello Sport's print edition claim that Napoli were extremely interested in signing the 19-year-old but have dropped their interest as they expect him to sign for Manchester United in January.

The Reds are interested in bolstering their ranks in the final third and United fans are desperate to see the Salzburg forward signed.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worked with the Norway international during his time with Molde and reports suggest a reunion at Old Trafford is on the cards.

Elsewhere, United have been linked with a move for Lille starlet Boubakary Soumare as a long-term replacement for Paul Pogba in midfield.

ESPN claim United chiefs are ready to engineer a move for the 20-year-old after monitoring his progress for a number of years.

The youngster has been watched by various top clubs around the world and United are eager to ensure they are first in line for his services.

United aren't looking to sell Pogba anytime soon but view Soumare as his heir.

Finally, reports suggest Lyon striker Moussa Dembele is keen to return to England amid speculation linking him with a switch to Old Trafford.

The former Celtic and Fulham forward has been in fine form for the French side leading to reports claiming United were keeping tabs on his situation.

ESPN report that Dembele favours a return to the UK rather than staying at his current club.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is a notoriously difficult negotiator and won't let his star forward leave on the cheap.
