Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addresses speculation
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes he has the backing of the board amid speculation over his future at Old Trafford.
Back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir have ramped up the pressure on the Norwegian, who insists he remains focused on the job at hand; turning their form around against Everton tomorrow.
Yesterday the MEN revealed that former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been approached with a view to appointing him as Solskjaer’s successor if results don’t improve.
"I've always had a very good, open and honest and positive dialogue with the club,” he told reporters.
“They've shown strong leadership, I've had good dialogue continually since I came in.
"And, with me, today it's sunny in Manchester, I don't expect the wind to turn, of course there is always pressure and expectations on us. I've grown up here. I became a man at Manchester United and have learnt how to deal with good and bad times.”
The latest team news ahead of Everton clash
Solskjaer has also given the latest team news ahead of United’s trip to Goodison Park.
The midweek trip to Istanbul has brought no fresh injury concerns, while the squad could be boosted by the return of new recruit Alex Telles, who was recently in self-isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.
Victor Lindelof, meanwhile, will undergo a late fitness test before the Everton clash, having missed out on the midweek Champions League defeat.
"We've not lost any from the Istanbul trip," the United coach said.
"Same group, same squad. Alex [Telles] has started training with us, which is good. Victor has still got the issue that he's been struggling with. He'll have to be checked tonight in the hotel.
"It's the same squad as before Istanbul really."
Here’s that team news in full.
David Moyes sends Solskjaer message
One man who knows how it feels to be under pressure at Old Trafford is David Moyes, who has responded to the talk around Solskjaer’s job security.
Having succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson as United’s first new coach in 27 years, the current West Ham manager struggled to deliver the results of his predecessor.
Sacked before he could see out the full 2013-14 campaign, Moyes left the club with a 52% win percentage, having lost 15 of the 51 matches he took charge of.
"All managers are under pressure," he said. "At Manchester United there is more pressure than any club in the world. It comes with the job.
"We know what happens if you don’t win enough games."
