Manchester United evening headlines as McTominay signs news contract plus Grealish transfer update

Here are the Manchester United evening headlines on Tuesday, June 23.

Grealish’s agent delivers transfer update

Manchester United are interested in signing Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish this summer. However, his agent Jonathan Barnett has insisted he is focusing on keeping his current side in the Premier League.

Grealish, a boyhood Villa supporter, will be crucial to his side’s chances of avoiding an immediate return to the Championship.

Even if Villa do avoid the drop, the 24-year-old is expected to move on ahead of next season, but his agent refused to discuss speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford.

“Jack is captain of Aston Villa, his first priority at the moment is to make sure that they survive in the Premiership,” he told The Athletic’s Ornstein and Chapman podcast. “Until that is sorted out, we don’t have the discussion.

“He’s got his priorities right, he has a job and that’s what he’s going to do, he’s going to fight hard for Aston Villa.”

Solskjaer backs Henderson to become United’s No.1

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reiterated his belief that Dean Henderson will become Manchester United and England’s No.1 goalkeeper one day following his excellent form on loan at Sheffield United.

"It's a different job to be playing for Sheffield United and for Man United, there are different, how do you say, he's got different roles and for me the two years he's had have been fantastic development,” he said.

"He's had to play with men, he's had to play against men, he's played in the Championship, and plays in a team that play fantastic football and exciting football.

"And as the stats show he's proved worthy of quite a few points. He's learning all the time, he's a passionate keeper that wants to be the best, he's developing, he's got good coaching there and I've said it before, one day he'll be England No.1 and Man United No.1 and it's up to him to keep developing."

McTominay signs new long-term contract

Scott McTominay has been rewarded for his progress this season with a new long-term contract.

The 23-year-old, who has featured 28 times in all competitions this term, has committed his future to United until 2025 with the option to extend for an additional year.

"Whilst I understand that we all have so many other things to think about at the moment, I’m so happy to sign this contract and play a part in the future ahead for this team," he said.

"All I have ever known is United and I hope that my passion for the club shows every time I go onto the pitch. I’ll continue to give everything for this club whenever I pull on the shirt.

"I want to thank the manager for the faith he has shown in me and everyone at the club that has helped me to get where I am today. I’m looking forward to finishing this season on a high and hopefully achieving our aims."
