Manchester United evening headlines as McTominay discusses new role

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Thursday, November 12.

McTominay opens up on new role

Scott McTominay says he is enjoying playing in a new role for Scotland under Steve Clark, who uses the Manchester United star as a right-sided centre-back in a back three.

McTominay has played almost exclusively in a box-to-box role under Ole Gunnar Solslkjaer at Old Trafford this season, with his athleticism and energy coming to the fore.

But for Scotland, the 23-year-old features in the backline, something he says he has not done for a long time.

“Before, whenever the manager of Scotland asked me if it was a role I was comfortable with, I was like: ‘Of course'. Whatever the manager asks you to do, you do,” he said .

“But I could not remember the last time I played there, which I said to him, but it’s a different role I’m enjoying.

"We have a big game coming up and it is important for us to get a big win there as we’ll be off to the Euros.”

Manchester United writers discuss Paul Pogba's future

Tevez names former United stars in dream XI

Carlos Tevez has named seven former United players in his dream XI of current and former teammates.

The striker has played for United, Manchester City, Juventus, and Boca Juniors, to name a few, during his career and has lined up alongside several of the best players in the world.

Despite this, it is United stars of the past that dominate the team.

Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Wayne Rooney were named in the XI as a result of their time spent with Tevez at the club.

Gabriel Heinze and Paul Pogba were also included, though they never played with Tevez at United.

“If I retired and had to put together a farewell match, my team would be…” he said via The Mirror . “Gianluigi Buffon, Hugo Ibarra, Rio Ferdinand, Gabriel Heinze, Patrice Evra [in defence].

“Paul Scholes, Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba [in midfield]. Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney [in attack].

"I’d stay on the bench.”

Opinion: Henderson frustration may build

Dean Henderson returned to United in the summer knowing he would have to unseat David de Gea to earn regular minutes.

However, as Tyrone Marshall writes for MEN Sport, the former Sheffield United shot-stopper may soon grow frustrated with his limited role if another unproductive international break plays out.

Henderson is currently on England duty, but with the European Championships looming next summer, he is firmly third-choice behind Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope.

The 23-year-old will not earn the number one jersey without first knocking de Gea off his perch at United.

In September, Henderson laid out his goals of being number one for club and country. “Obviously I want to play for England and I want to play for Manchester United,” he said.

“And so I’m just going to keep working hard every single day, overcoming my little challenges, my little goals and I’m sure one day I'll get to where I want to be.”

Therefore, given de Gea’s current form since the start of the season, he could be forced to seek a loan exit in January despite signing a six-year contract in the summer.
