Manchester United evening headlines as Henderson signs new contract

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Wednesday, August 26.

Henderson signs new contract

Dean Henderson has signed a new five-year contract at Manchester United, with the option of a further year.

The academy graduate has put pen to paper on a deal until the summer of 2025 and looks set to remain at the club next season and challenge David de Gea to be the first-choice goalkeeper.

It caps an excellent couple of days for Henderson, who was included in the England squad on Tuesday for Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark.

“The pathway that I have been on for the past five years has been fantastic for my development and the invaluable loan period at Sheffield United has been part of that," said Henderson.

“The goalkeeping department at United is excellent; there are three top-level goalkeepers who have achieved so much in the game and I look forward to working with the group. The faith that the manager and the club have shown in me with this contract means a lot to me and will continue my progression as a goalkeeper."

Barcelona youngster set for United transfer

Barcelona youngster Marc Jurado is on his way to England ahead of a proposed transfer to United.

The 16-year-old’s contract with Barcelona recently expired and MEN Sport understands that United are on the verge of completing a move for the teenager.

According to sources in Spain, Jurado turned down a three-year contract offer from the Catalan giants which will enable the Red Devils to sign him at a cut-price rate.

Jurado confirmed that he was going to leave Barcelona back in June and United are understood to be confident of finalising a move very soon.

United confirm details of Williams injury

United have confirmed that left-back Brandon Williams is recovering from a foot injury and will therefore be unavailable for international duty.

Injury for the 19-year-old means that he yet again misses out on an opportunity to be part of England’s Under-21 squad that will play against Kosovo and Austria.

However, the club is believed to be hopeful of Williams returning to fitness ahead of their first Premier League game of the season against Crystal Palace on September 19.

Fellow left-back Luke Shaw is also suffering from injury which means that United face a race against time to make sure one of them is fit for next month’s opening fixture.
