Here are the Manchester United evening headlines for Friday, November 27.
United provide injury updates ahead of Southampton clash
Manchester United expect to be without Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay for Sunday’s trip to Southampton.
Both players missed Tuesday night’s Champions League win over Istanbul Baseksehir with injuries.
Marcus Rashford, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, meanwhile, are likely to play against Southampton.
“Scott and Paul didn't train this morning,” United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. “They weren't on the grass, so look very unlikely for the weekend. Marcus, Victor, Aaron came through the session today, so hopefully they should be okay but still not 100%.
“Luke [Shaw] has just started his rehab, out on the grass, not out with the team yet. Jesse's [Lingard] back from his isolation period, so he had a couple of days training with the group. Apart from that, Phil Jones is out until after Christmas sometime.
“We played on Tuesday then don't have a game until Sunday, so it's been a long period for us, we managed to give the boys a day off during this difficult time. [Van de Beek and Cavani] will both be available to play and I'm sure if they do they'll be capable again.”
Lingard back in training after spell on the sidelines
Lingard is back in training for United after over a month out with an unspecified injury.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury in early October and was set to return before the recent international break.
But he was then forced into a period of isolation after coming into contact with someone who had tested positive for COVID-19.
Lingard could be available for Sunday’s game against Southampton, though Solskjaer revealed that he has only had “a couple of days training with the group”.
Dortmund chief dismisses Haaland speculation amid Man United links
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has refuted claims Erling Haaland could leave the club next year.
The striker is among the most revered young talents in Europe having made a prolific start to his Dortmund career.
And his performances have led to speculation over a potential move to United or Manchester City.
“We plan for the long term with Erling. [Rumours] do not have to be dealt with at all,” Zorc told a press conference ahead of the Bundesliga clash against Koln on Saturday. “I will see him with us for a long time.”
