Manchester United evening headlines as Cavani issues demand to teammates

Here are the Manchester United evening headlines for Monday, November 2.

Cavani calls on teammates to ‘stay focused’ after Arsenal defeat

Edinson Cavani has urged his Manchester United teammates to “stay focused” after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat against Arsenal.

The Uruguayan striker was introduced as a second-half substitute but couldn’t prevent the Reds from falling to another loss at Old Trafford.

And he took to social media after the game to issue a rallying cry.

“You have to keep working hard and stay focused,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself in action against Arsenal.

The 33-year-old has made three substitute appearances for United since joining from Paris Saint-Germain but is yet to score his first goal for the club.

Telles returns to United training ground

Alex Telles was back at Carrington this morning but left 15 minutes after his arrival.

The left-back, signed from Porto last month, had been absent from United's training ground after testing positive for coronavirus.

MEN Sport understands Telles had a COVID-19 test at the training ground today and left shortly after.

United’s players are being tested before Wednesday night’s Champions League game against Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey.

Telles has missed his side’s last three games after making his debut in the 2-1 victory away at Paris Saint-Germain.

Maguire points out United’s biggest failing in Arsenal defeat

Harry Maguire has admitted Manchester United lost possession too often in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat against Arsenal.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal from the penalty spot was enough to give the visitors all three points on another disappointing afternoon for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

And Maguire was candid in his assessment of the defeat.

“It's hard to put your finger on it,” he told Sky Sports. “It was disappointing from us. It was a cagey game, a game of few chances. We needed to do more, we needed to create more.

“We were confident going into the game. It was important to start the game well and we didn't. We just gave the ball away too much. If you give the ball away as much as we did in that first-half you're not going to win games.

“It's not good enough, we've got to go and work hard tomorrow (Monday) at training.”
