Manchester United evening headlines as Bruno Fernandes responds to Eric Cantona comparisons

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Saturday August 15.

Fernandes responds to Cantona comparisons

Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes has responded to recent comparisons with club legend Eric Cantona.

The Portuguese attacking midfielder has hit the ground running and admits that being compared to Cantona is highly flattering. Speaking ahead of United’s semi-final with Sevilla, Fernandes also noted his focus on the task in hand this weekend.

"It's really good to listen to them talking about those names… but really, for me, Cantona was an amazing player for the club. I need to do much, much, much better to be compared with him. I'm really happy for what I did; I'm not satisfied.

"Like the coach said, for me, to come to Manchester is about winning trophies, I come to the club to win some trophies and I will be happy this season if we win the Europa League."

Young explains key reason for United exit

Former United left-back Ashley Young has outlined the key reasons behind his Old Trafford exit.

The 35-year-old officially left the club back in January when he completed a permanent move to Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan in Serie A.

In an interview with the official Uefa website, Young noted that he decided to leave Old Trafford after a key conversation with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He said: “Obviously being in England all my life, it was a totally different change.

"But it was an experience that I jumped at. It was an opportunity for me to go and play regularly.

"I spoke to Ole and he said that I wasn't going to play as much as I wanted to, and when you’re coming towards the end of your career you want to be playing as much as you can. I’m as fit as anyone and I feel like I've still got a lot to give.”

Surprise inclusion for Europa League semi-final explained

Some eagle-eyed United supporters spotted a new inclusion in the Europa League squad ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with Sevilla.

Ethan Galbraith has teamed up with Harry Maguire and co. after making his debut earlier this season against Astana.

The 19-year-old’s inclusion in the squad comes after the departure of fellow academy youngster Angel Gomes who left the club earlier this summer.

Gomes had originally been included in United’s squad list despite leaving the club previously and Galbraith looks set to team up with the first team.
