Manchester United evening headlines as Amad Diallo decision set, Brandon Williams' loan hope

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Friday, January 8.

United to make Diallo decision

Manchester United are yet to decide on whether Amad Diallo will go straight into their first-team squad.

Diallo completed his £37million move from Atalanta on Thursday and will be available to play straight away once he arrives in England because he was part of Atalanta's bubble.

However, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stressed that the 18-year-old won’t be rushed into action.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaks ahead of the FA Cup third round tie against Watford

"He's still not been with us in the training group," Solskjaer said. "It's the last bit of paperwork so he can come in. I'm excited by all new players coming in.

"We'll give him time. I've seen there's been lots of expectations on Amad and rightly so. He's an exciting player with some fantastic attributes we look forward to developing and giving him the chance to succeed here at Man United.

"It's important we give him that time to settle in, if it's going to be in the 23s to play his first few games or if he looks so ready after he's been training with the first-team and he'll go straight into that group, I don't know yet."

Williams wants Premier League loan

United full-back Brandon Williams is keen to secure a loan move in the January transfer window to another Premier League side.

The 20-year-old has made just five appearances across all competitions this season, with his only two starts coming in the Carabao Cup.

He has not started a top-flight game since the 2-0 victory over Manchester City in March of last year and wants to move in order to play regularly.

MEN Sport understands that Newcastle United have expressed interest in his services, while Southampton, who made a late enquiry on deadline day in October, appeal to Williams.

Kyle Walker-Peters and Ryan Bertrand are firmly established as Southampton's full-back pairing, but manager Ralph Hassenhuttl is short of cover in the positions.

Pellestri tests positive for coronavirus

United winger Facundo Pellistri has tested positive for coronavirus.

The 19-year-old has been training with the first-team squad over the last two weeks and his management team Equipo TMA confirmed he had contracted COVID-19 on Thursday night.

Pellistri was in line to make his United debut against Watford in the FA Cup third round on Saturday but he has started a 10-day period of self-isolation.

"He's been with the reserves and the 23s and he wasn't really in our group over Christmas. Apart from that, we have a full and fit squad," Solskjaer said.

Pellestri is the third United player to test positive for the virus after Paul Pogba and Alex Telles.
