Manchester United equal Premier League away record with 1-1 draw vs Southampton

Manchester United have equalled Arsenal's record of 27 Premier League away matches unbeaten following their 1-1 draw with Southampton at St Mary's this afternoon.

After falling behind on the half hour mark courtesy of an own-goal by midfielder Fred, United got themselves back on level terms when Mason Greenwood netted his second goal in as many games ten minutes into the second half.

In truth, the contest could have gone either way after Greenwood's leveller, with the best chance falling Southampton's way when David De Gea was called into action to thwart Adam Armstrong's effort.

Nevertheless, whilst United will no doubt be disappointed to have dropped two points, it has kept their remarkable unbeaten run away from home in the Premier League going, meaning they have now matched the record set by Arsenal in the 2003/04 campaign.

That season, of course, saw the Gunners go the duration of the campaign unbeaten, a record that no other Premier League side has yet been able to match.

Of the 27 away games that United are now unbeaten in, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's troops have won 17 of them and drawn ten, dating all the way back to January 2020, with their last away defeat coming at the hands of Liverpool.

As well as equalling the Premier League record for the number of away games they have gone without defeat, they have also equalled the record held in English top-flight history, meaning they could write some history of their own when they travel to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers next weekend.

Meanwhile, the stalemate at St Mary's has left United fourth in the Premier League table, two points behind current table-toppers Liverpool.
