Manchester United earn £143m TV revenue boost - more than European giants

New figures have shown that Manchester United were among highest earners in Europe last season from TV revenues, as one of only six sides to pocket more than £140m.

United earned £143 from TV revenue last season, putting them behind only Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur - but above Arsenal.

Given that City won the Premier League, Liverpool secured Champions League glory, Chelsea won the Europa League and Spurs reached the Champions League final, it isn't too surprising to see United behind them in the rankings.

However, United earn significantly more than their European counterparts, including Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, all of whom won their respective divisions last term.

In comparison, Barcelona scooped themselves £130m, Bayern £87.6m and Juventus, despite having the pulling power of Cristiano Ronaldo, pocketed themselves just £76.5m.

Even more remarkably, Bayern and Juventus, who boast some of the greatest players in the world, earned less in TV money than the Premier League’s three relegated clubs, Cardiff City, Fulham and Huddersfield Town.

Between the three of them, Cardiff, Fulham and Huddersfield bagged a combined total of £301.2m in TV money.

So with that in mind, Bayern earned £9m less than Huddersfield, who were relegated from the Premier League after winning just three times all season, even though they won a seventh consecutive Bundesliga title and reached the last-16 of the Champions League.
