Manchester United 'discover two rivals' to sign Victor Osimhen and other transfer rumours

Manchester United are one of three Premier League teams vying to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer, it has been reported.

The Red Devils will face competition from Arsenal and Newcastle United, with all three sides keen on adding the Nigerian's goal for the 2023/2024 campaign according to Il Mattino (via GOAL). Osimhen has found the net 12 times in 14 Serie A appearances this campaign, with his Napoli side nine points clear at the top of the table.

Such is the striker's form, that Luciano Spalletti's side are thought to want north of £130million. The 24-year-old's contract in Naples runs until 2025, with the report suggesting any talk of an extension will be shelved until the season's end.

United signed Wout Weghorst on a season-long loan from Burnley last week, the Dutchman terminating his season-long move to Besiktas early - the Turkish club will receive around £2.5million for their troubles. But at 30 years old, the striker is seemingly a stop-gap to a bigger investment in that role come summer.

Elsewhere, West Ham United are considering a loan move for Harry Maguire with Manchester United open to selling the defender at a considerable loss in the summer, according to the Mirror.

Maguire arrived at Old Trafford in 2019, with the Red Devils paying £80million to Leicester City for his services. Despite enjoying a spell as the club's captain, the 29-year-old has been unable to replicate his form at the King Power Stadium or on international duty with England.

A constant starter and pivotal part of Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad over the winter, Maguire has started just one of United's four Premier League wins since. West Ham manager David Moyes is considering a number of options to replace Craig Dawson - potentially departing for Wolves - with a half-season loan for the Red Devils defender one possibility.

Erik Ten Hag has been clear in his preference of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as the predominant partnership, perhaps his most damning indictment of Maguire's future being the decision to start Luke Shaw on the left of the pair in recent weeks. United will therefore be willing to sell the defender in the summer, despite an acceptance that any move will fail to recoup anything close to the £80million spent four years ago.
