Manchester United deliver Marcus Rashford fitness update ahead of West Ham clash

Marcus Rashford will travel to West Ham for their showdown with Manchester United on Saturday evening but the Reds striker remains an injury doubt.

Rashford sustained a shoulder problem during the 3-1 defeat to PSG in the Champions League in midweek, heading straight down the Old Trafford tunnel having been replaced by Paul Pogba with 15 minutes of the game to go.

The England striker has been back in training over the last couple of days but he has not been taking part in full sessions with his teammates at their Carrington training base.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solsjaer gave an update on the fitness of his frontman at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon: "Marcus has been training this morning.

“Not fully but he's joined in with the group. Obviously, his shoulder stopped him finishing the game, so he's been getting treatment and hopefully he'll be part of the squad that travels, he's having treatment after training.”

Left back Luke Shaw is not fit to take part on Saturday as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury that has ruled him out for a month.

“Luke's not ready yet, apart from that we had a big squad training again,” Solskjaer added.

“We're a bit bruised after Wednesday night but hopefully we'll be ready to go again tomorrow."

Solskjaer’s side will travel to a stadium where they will play in front of fans for the first time in nine months, not that any Man United fans will be in London Stadium on Saturday.

London has been placed in Tier 2 coronavirus restrictions, meaning 2000 fans will be at the game this weekend but they will all be Hammers fans as no away fans are allowed yet.

Manchester is currently in Tier 3 restrictions, meaning they can’t have fans at Old Trafford until the second week of December at the earliest when the Government reviews its tiering system.

"It'll be great playing in front of fans," Solskjaer added. "We're looking forward to it. Of course, we won't have our fans there but we will just have to use the energy and thrive off the home fans and make them quiet, hopefully. That we make them edgy, we're looking forward to it.

"It's great to see fans back in a stadium, of course we want them back at Old Trafford as well and hopefully we'll get that soon. Football has not been the same."
