Manchester United defenders shortlist revealed and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have six defenders on their transfer shortlist for next summer - according to reports.

United intended to strengthen their centre-back department during the recently closed transfer window but were unable to offload fringe defenders such as Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones.

The Reds are expected to assess their options at the back next summer with a defender believed to be high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's wish list.

90min report Villarreal defender Pau Torres is moving up Solskjaer's shortlist as a result of his impressive performances in La Liga.

The 23-year-old is now a regular international for Spain and has been tipped for a big-money transfer to the Premier League.

RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano is also a target, according to the report, as well as Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos who could be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement in January as contract talks continue to stall.

United are also reportedly monitoring Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, who was personally called by Pep Guardiola this summer, as well as Brighton's Ben White and Leicester's Caglar Soyuncu.

Elsewhere, Southampton will attempt to sign Brandon Williams on loan in January - reports claim.

Williams was pushed down the pecking order following the summer arrival of Alex Telles.

The Athletic claim the Saints are one of many clubs keeping tabs on the 20-year-old who hasn't played a single minute in the Premier League this season.

The report adds Williams was keen to leave United temporarily in the summer but a move failed to materialise.
