Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo withdraws from Argentina squad

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has been ruled out of Argentina's upcoming international fixtures against Brazil and Uruguay.

Rojo withdrew from the squad on Sunday afternoon after he played for United in their Premier League win against Brighton earlier in the day.

The 29-year-old featured for United as a second-half substitute during the 3-1 win against Brighton, when he replaced Brandon Williams in added time.

However, just hours after the victory at Old Trafford the Argentinian FA confirmed Rojo would no longer be a part of Lionel Scaloni's side over the international break.

Rojo was ruled out of the matches along with Watford midfielder Roberto Pereyra, however no official reason has been given for his absence.

Argentina have drafted in Boca Juniors' midfielder Alexis Mac Allister ahead of their match against Brazil on Friday night and their encounter with Uruguay next Monday.

Lionel Messi has been included in the Argentina squad for the first time following a three-month suspension earlier in the year following a ban from CONMEBOL.

The Barcelona forward has missed the last four international matches after he was banned for accusing the South American governing body of corruption following his side's semi-final loss to Brazil at the Copa America.
