Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo recalls bust up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Manchester United loanee Marcos Rojo has revealed how Jose Mourinho once had to intervene to prevent an argument between the Argentine and Zlatan Ibrahimovic from boiling over.

The dispute started during a training session, during which Mourinho told both players to calm down to reduce the risk of injuries to other players.

However, Mourinho's warning didn't work and he was later forced to step in as the quarrel continued into the dressing room.

Rojo, who is currently on loan at boyhood club Estudiantes, told Cielo Sports about the incident which occurred shortly after Zlatan’s arrival in 2016:.

"Zlatan has a strong character, Ezequiel Lavezzi had warned me," Rojo said. "He wanted us to give him all the balls, but during a game I saw him ask for it and I didn’t give it to him. I passed it to Paul Pogba.

"Then he started yelling at me, raising his hand, and telling me a lot of things in Spanish and English. I said to him: ‘what’s going on with you big nose? Shut up.’

"I knew that if he caught me, he would kill me so the only thing for me to do was face him."

Rojo added: "When he (Ibrahimovic) entered the locker room, I directly told him to close his mouth and stop yelling.

"We started to insult each other and all our teammates were watching us And in the middle, Jose was trying to calm us down."

All three men have now left United, with Rojo on loan at Estudiantes, Ibrahimovic back in Italy with AC Milan and Mourinho at Tottenham.

Speaking about his January move back to Argentina, Rojo had a heartwarming anecdote.

He said: "When I had the OK from the club, the first person I called was my mother and said: ‘Don’t say anything.’ Zero, she told me. She told everyone."
