Manchester United defender Luke Shaw mocks Romelu Lukaku over Inter Milan Champions League exit

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw mocked his former teammate Romelu Lukaku after Inter Milan were knocked out of the Champions League.

Lukaku joined the Italian side in the summer and it gave him an opportunity to play again in the Champions League, something not possible at United this season due their failed to qualify, and the Belgium international was happy to be back amongst the elite of Europe.

The forward posted a picture of himself laughing on October 22nd with a smiling emoji and the Champions League hashtag but Shaw ensured he had the last laugh on Tuesday night.

Inter lost 2-1 to Barcelona and the result meant they finished third in the group, seven points behind group winners Barca and three behind runners-up Borussia Dortmund meaning they were dumped out of the competition at the first opportunity.

The result meant Inter will now play in the Europa League knockout stages and there's a potential of a reunion with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side with United already booking their place in the last 32.

And Shaw was quick to mock his former teammate tweeting: 'Welcome back' along with a winking emoji.

The post comes after Lukaku shared a picture of the club's running stats in the summer, which he later deleted, to defend himself over criticism that he was slow. The stats showed Shaw had come in bottom in the running stats and provoked a reaction from Juan Mata at the time who tweeted: “Thanks for finally showing the world that I’m quicker than Luke Shaw bro."

United face AZ Alkmaar in their final group game of this season's competition and need only a point to ensure they finish as group winners. Solskjaer's side qualified for the knockout stages with two games to spare which allowed him to take a very young side to their last fixture away at Astana.
