Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has issued a fitness update as he faces a race against time to be fit for next weekend's meeting with Liverpool.
The England international has been sidelined with a calf injury and missed their last two games as well as the Three Lion's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary.
Maguire looks set to miss this weekend's game against his former club Leicester City, before United face Atalanta midweek in the Champions League and then Liverpool at Old Trafford on October 24.
He told United's official website : “It’s getting there. I still haven’t trained yet with the squad but I am getting better, I am progressing as I should be.
“It is obviously a frustrating injury for me to get. But I am progressing and I will be back on the pitch soon.”
The Manchester club are also set to be without new signing Raphael Varane, who will be sidelined for 'a number of weeks' after picking up an injury while on international duty.
United released a statement this week: “Raphael Varane sustained a groin muscle injury in the UEFA Nations League final and has commenced rehabilitation at the the club.
“He will be out for a few weeks.”
Liverpool have received an injury boost themselves this week with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota both expected to be fit for this Saturday's meeting with Watford.
Midfielder Thiago Alcantara, however, is yet to return to training and is in a battle himself to be fit for the blockbuster clash next weekend.
