Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson leaves on loan

Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has joined Oldham Athetlc on loan until the end of the season after his spell at Tranmere Rovers was cut short.

Borthwick-Jackson was on loan at Sunday's FA Cup opponents Tranmere for the first half of the season, but only made five appearances at Prenton Park before being recalled earlier this month.

Now, he heads out on loan again, dropping down a division to Oldham, who are 18th in League Two. His first game will be against the Class of '92-owned Salford City on Saturday, who have just signed United youngster George Tanner on loan.

Borthwick-Jackson, 22, made his United debut in 2015 under Louis van Gaal, and has made 14 appearances in total. However, loan spells at Wolves, Leeds, Scunthorpe and Tranmere have proved relatively fruitless - although his time at Scunthorpe was his most productive yet.

Now, he joins former United youngster Zak Dearnley at Boundary Park, where he will play until the end of the season, when his contract at United expires.

Aidan Barlow is also set to be sent out on loan after a spell at Norwegian side Tromso earlier in the campaign. United have already recalled Ethan Hamilton this month from a loan spell with Southend, before sending the youngster back out on loan to Bolton Wanderers.
