Manchester United 'decide' on January transfer window mission and more rumours

Manchester United will use the January transfer window to try and bring a new centre-back to Old Trafford.

That is according to a report by the Mirror who claim that United will look to bolster their defensive options as a result of Harry Maguire's recent stuttering form.

The England international, who will be hoping to help the Three Lions secure their place at next year's FIFA World Cup in Qatar over this current international break, has struggled for form of late and came in for hefty criticism following United's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

United bolstered their central-defensive options during the summer with the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, but injury struggles have so far haunted his Old Trafford career.

With Maguire struggling for form without the Frenchman by his side, United are reportedly going to look into bringing a new centre-back to the club in January.

It is claimed that Sevilla ace Jules Kounde is at the top of United's priority list and the Spanish club fear that the £68million release clause in the 22-year-old's contract.

Kounde is one of the most highly-rated defenders in the world and is still attracting interest from Chelsea after they came close to landing him in the summer.

Meanwhile, United midfielder Paul Pogba is prepared to lower his wages to rejoin Juventus next summer if they successfully qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League, a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by Inside Futbol, claims.

The Frenchman, who is facing up to ten weeks on the sidelines through injury, is out-of-contract at Old Trafford next summer.

Pogba has always maintained the stance that he will make a decision concerning his future at the end of the season, but there is an increasing feeling that he will not put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford.

The likes of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Spanish giants Real Madrid have all been linked with Pogba's signature. However, it is reported that a return to Italy is the midfielder's preference, and he is prepared to take a pay-cut to complete his return to Juventus.

It is reported that Pogba currently earns €14million (£11.9m) per year, excluding bonuses, at Old Trafford. However, he is ready to take a cut return to Turin on a three-year contract. That, though, all depends on if Juventus qualify for the Champions League.
