Manchester United could match rare Perugia record vs Wolves

With just one game remaining in the Premier League, Manchester United are 12 points behind rivals and champions Manchester City.

As the season reaches its conclusion, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's attention will turn to making plans to operate shrewdly in the transfer market, as United attempt to recruit wisely with the aim of mounting a serious title challenge next campaign.

While Solskjaer has said he wants 'two or three' quality additions, the Norwegian also needs to analyse just why United delivered so many lacklustre performances at Old Trafford this season because their poor form at home proved their undoing in the title race.

On the contrary, United's displays on the road have been remarkable and they've developed into formidable opposition when playing away - they're actually unbeaten away from home in the league this season, which is an incredible feat that isn't easy to achieve.

Furthermore, If United avoid defeat against Wolves at Molineux on Sunday, they would become just the second side from the top five European leagues to have remained unbeaten in all league away matches in a campaign, yet not win the title.

Perugia in Serie A in 1978-79 are the only team to boast that peculiar record, which just highlights the rarity of such an outcome.

That statistic just proves that United's home form has ultimately cost them an unlikely Premier League title this season, but if they can continue that rich vein of away form, and improve their fortunes at Old Trafford, next term looks promising.
