Manchester United could give Champions League debuts to players vs Istanbul Basaksehir

Dean Henderson could make his Champions League debut for Manchester United against Istanbul Basaksehir.

The MEN understands Henderson, 23, expects to start in United's third group game on Wednesday night, having last played in the Carabao Cup fourth round win over Brighton in late September.

Henderson has kept clean sheets in both of his starts this term and is in line to make his England debut in the friendly against the Republic of Ireland later this month.

Odion Ighalo, yet to play in the Champions League, has travelled and Jesse Lingard has returned to training for United but was not named in the squad. Alex Telles did not report at the club's Carrington training complex this morning.

Telles, 27, tested positive for coronavirus last month and has not trained since he made his debut against Paris Saint-Germain two weeks ago. The Brazilian spent 15 minutes at Carrington on Monday morning when he had another COVID-19 test.

"I think you've got a chance to see all 23 players that travel tomorrow on the pitch and to play," United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. "And that's the way it has to be at Man United with competition for places.

"Dean has come in and been great in training, great in games he's played, so you'll see the team when we start. David has played well lately, so I have options."

Solskjaer brushed off criticism from his friend Roy Keane of the current United players after Keane said: "Ole will lose his job working with these players."

United have lost three of their first six Premier League games but are well placed to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage after beating Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.

"Roy has always been outspoken and I'm very glad I've got the players we have here with us," Solskjaer added. "We've got different jobs and Roy's job is to give his opinion and I always listen to Roy.

"But we always move on here with a great group of players, strong group of players, and I'm sure we'll see a response."
