Manchester United could be facing decision over Ethan Galbraith

Manchester United could be facing a decision over the short-term future of Ethan Galbraith.

The 20-year-old midfielder is currently on a season-long loan with EFL League One club Doncaster Rovers.

It is understood a number of clubs in the Championship are currently looking at Galbraith during the January transfer window.

The twice-capped Northern Ireland international is attracting interest after impressing for Doncaster this season.

He has made over 20 appearances for the Eco-Power Stadium side, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

Many of Doncaster's fans have hailed Galbraith as their player of the season so far, while manager Gary McSheffrey has hailed the midfielder's impact since joining the club.

Manchester United could recall Galbraith if they feel his development is better served at a club playing at a higher level.

Despite the speculation surrounding his potential departure, McSheffrey is confident os retaining the player's services beyond January.

He told Doncaster Free Press : “I’ll let Graham [Younger, head of talent identification] get on with that sort of thing but at the moment there isn’t that I’ve been made aware of any threat of us losing any of the players.

“You look at the likes of Ethan Galbraith and Matt Smith and the minutes they’ve both played, I think their clubs are happy with how much they’ve contributed and how much experience they’re getting.

“We’ll definitely be in contact and be reassured that we can keep them.”

Galbraith has already made his senior debut for Manchester United and signed a long-term contract last season which will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2023.

He made his senior bow for Northern Ireland in a friendly against Luxembourg at Windsor Park in September, 2019.
