Manchester United consider loaning out players in January

Manchester United could let youngsters Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner leave the club on loan in January.

The club have revealed that the young trio — who have all been involved in first team squads this season — could have departed on a temporary basis in the summer, but were retained by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first team.

The club's loan boss, Les Parry, whose official title is academy player performance manager, has spoken about the loan process at Old Trafford and the tough decisions that were made in the summer.

“There will be lots of hard work, as part of what Nicky Butt puts together as the plan for everybody,” Parry told United's official website.

“We’ll plan it out and we’ve identified four or five who might be going out in January. Obviously, our first-team manager has a say.

“Three lads could have possibly gone on loan – Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner – but he wanted to keep them here and have a look at them on tour. So a decision will be made, no doubt, for January as well. Hopefully, all three will be in the first team and not going anywhere."

Necessity dictated that United keep hold of many of their young players and introduce them into the first team.

But the club could sign January reinforcements in the forward and midfield areas, meaning there could be scope for youngsters to go out and get experience on loan.

But there are others in the academy system yet to break through, who could also seek loan moves.

“As we know at this club, lads have got into the first team and a lot of it has been through circumstances they’ve got no control over," added Parry.

"They’ve been presented with an opportunity and they’ve taken the opportunity so now a couple of them are regulars on the team sheet each week. We’ve had opportunities that have cropped up from nowhere. That’s football.

“Hopefully, some of the lads out on loan now will also catch the eye as some have gone out with a perception of their ability and where they’ll end up but hopefully they’ll come back and people will say maybe we’ve got a little diamond.”

The club will look to use Axel Tuanzebe as an example. The defender is now on the brink of a regular first team place at United, having won promotion with Aston Villa last season in a productive loan soell.

“We look at the host club and if there are any areas of the development, where we’re not able to provide,” added Parry.

“Analysis is a good one. Some clubs don’t have full-time analysts so they aren’t able to clip matches as well as we are. So we make sure that we send the clips to the lads but Axel Tuanzebe, last year at Villa, had a great analyst who sent clips to Axel."
