Manchester United confirm new loan clubs for James Garner and Tahith Chong

Manchester United have confirmed that James Garner and Tahith Chong have both completed new loan moves.

Garner joined Championship side Watford at the start of the 2020/21 season but was limited to just 12 league starts, with eight appearances from the bench.

The 19-year-old has struggled for first-team minutes since the Hornets sacked Vladimir Ivic, replacing him with Spanish boss Xisco Munoz, with the club chasing automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

Garner has already featured seven times for United's first team but in a search of regular first-team football, he will spend the remainder of the campaign with Nottingham Forest, managed by Chris Hughton.

Forest sit 21st in the table, three points above the relegation zone, after seriously under-performing thus far and Garner could make his debut on Tuesday against Coventry City.

“I’m made up - the club, the stature, the history, it’s definitely something I was looking forward to. As soon as I found out, I was very interested," Garner said.

“The game that I played (earlier in the season) in was quite boring, wasn’t it! It was a 0-0. But in terms of the team, there’s a lot of quality players in the squad. I’m very surprised where we are in the table."

Chong, meanwhile, has left Werder Bremen after starting just four times in the Bundesliga.

The 21-year-old winger scored one goal for Bremen in the DFB Pokal Cup and, as a result, his spell in Germany has been cut short.

Chong was an unused substitute during the 1-1 draw with Schalke on Saturday afternoon and will now play his football for Belgian outfit Club Brugge.

“It's been a pleasure to represent this club [Werder] for the last few months,” Chong said on Twitter. “Even though it wasn't long, I learnt a lot and I leave the club with some great memories and friendships. Good luck for the rest of the season.”
