Manchester United have been handed a double selection boost ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at home to high-flying Sunderland.

The Red Devils are looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 3-1 loss away at Brentford as they failed to build on the 2-1 win over Chelsea the week prior.

Missing from the squad at the Gtech Community Stadium was Amad Diallo and Ruben Amorim has confirmed this was because of a bereavement in Ivory Coast international’s family.

Amorim said: “Amad is not here, someone in his family passed away so we are giving all the support to Amad.

“We understood it was important to him to have his time and to return home [here]

“That is real life for Amad: we are here for him. It’s a tough moment and in these kind of moments it is not important the next game.

“We can win without Amad and we will try to win for Amad.”

Another absentee in west London was Casemiro who served a one-match suspension as a result of being sent-off for two bookable offences in the victory against Chelsea.

In a double boost for Amorim, Man United have confirmed that Amad and Casemiro are both in contention to face Sunderland - who begin the weekend sitting fifth in the Premier League table.

A statement reads: “Amad is now back training and working hard to prepare for the weekend’s game, where United seek an immediate response to defeat when we welcome his former club, Sunderland, to Old Trafford.

“Noussair Mazraoui remained absent, having been ruled out until the October international break, which begins next week.

“As well as Amad, United will have Casemiro available for selection again, after he missed the Brentford clash through a one-game suspension, on the back of his red card during the 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Long-term absentee Lisandro Martinez was not with the group, as he continues to strive to build fitness ahead of his keenly awaited comeback.”
