Manchester United confirm Matteo Darmian transfer to Parma

Manchester United have confirmed Matteo Darmian has joined Italian side Parma on a permanent deal.

The full-back brings to an end his four-year spell at United, moving to the Serie A side in a deal believed to be worth worth £3.6million.

He arrived under Louis van Gaal from Torino in 2015 and made 92 appearances for the club, scoring once. His last appearance for the Reds came in the 2-0 Manchester derby defeat to City in April this year.

After completing a medical and agreeing personal terms with Parma, Darmian's move was confirmed on Monday morning — the final day of the transfer window for Italian clubs.

“I’m happy to be back home, it’s an important opportunity," Darmian said upon touching down in his home country over the weekend. “It’s certainly an important opportunity to get back into the Italy team."

He leaves behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, who bolstered their right-back ranks with the summer addition of Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £50million and left Darmian way down the pecking order.

“They are strong players and I wish them all the best," Darmian added. "I’m sure they will have a great season.”

A short statement on the United website said: "Everyone at Manchester United would like to thank Matteo for his service and wish him all the best for the future."
