Manchester United confirm Harvey Neville departure in statement

Manchester United have officially confirmed the departure of academy graduate Harvey Neville as he prepares to join-up with his father in the United States.

The 18-year-old son of Phil Neville has signed for USL League One side Fort Lauderdale, who act as a reserve team to the Inter Miami franchise which is part-owned by David Beckham - the former England captain.

Neville Jnr, who has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-19 level, progressed through the youth ranks with United, but didn't make a senior appearance for the club.

Indeed, the closest he came was an EFL Trophy outing for the Under-23s against Morecambe earlier this season.

A regular within the Premier League 2 set-up, the teenage right-back - whose uncle is of course Gary Neville - did make nine appearances in that particular charge this campaign, although the majority of those outings did come as a substitute.

In a short statement on the United website, the club said: "Everybody at the club would like to wish Harvey every success in his future career, as we look forward to monitoring his progress in the States."

Neville Jnr's move to the United States sees him follow in the footsteps of his father Phil - who was appointed to the Miami hot-seat in January, having taken charge of the England Women's team for three years.

Under the management of the former United and Everton defender, Beckham's Florida-based franchise have had a mixed start to the season, winning one and drawing one of their three Eastern Conference games so far.
