Manchester United confirm exit of goalkeeper coach Emilio Alvarez

Manchester United have confirmed goalkeeper coach Emilio Alvarez has left the club.

Alvarez has been a key member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's backroom staff, staying at Old Trafford after Jose Mourinho was sacked last year.

But he has now departed with Solskjaer extending his gratitude to the former Real Madrid youth goalkeeper.

“I would like to thank Emilio for all his help and hard work since my return to the club," said the Norwegian.

"We all wish him well for the future."

Alvarez added: "I will always be proud of belonging to this club. Wishing you every success in your endeavours.”

The coach admitted earlier this year that he thought he would be surplus to requirements after Mourinho was relieved of his duties at United.

He joined the club in 2016 after working closely with Red Devils No.1 David de Gea at Atletico Madrid.

"It looked as though I would have to leave," Álvarez told El País. "My sole link was the relationship I have with David and the reason for me staying here has been to continuing with him.

"I was ready for everything, but the club told me that they wanted me to stay. I've spoken to Jose and I can only be grateful to him. I like doing the right thing, not just the convenient thing."
