Manchester United confirm departure of first team coach

Manchester United have confirmed goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez has left the club.

Alvarez joined United in 2016 having mentored David de Gea during the formative years of the Spaniard's career at Atletico Madrid.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I would like to thank Emilio for all his help and hard work since my return to the club. We all wish him well for the future."

Alvarez said: “I will always be proud of belonging to this club. Wishing you every success in your endeavours.”

United appointed Richard Hartis as the club's senior goalkeeping coach in June and a press release issued by the club at the time confirmed he would work alongside Alvarez rather than replace him.

However, that partnership has lasted just three months and Alvarez becomes the final member of the coaching staff employed by former United manager Jose Mourinho to leave the club.

De Gea signed a four-year contract at United earlier this month.
