Manchester United confirm Amad Diallo transfer from Atalanta

Amad Diallo is officially a Manchester United player after the club announced his arrival on Thursday.

United agreed a deal to sign Diallo from Atalanta during last summer's transfer window, with the move subject to a medical, work permit and personal terms.

All three hurdles were overcome and Diallo will link up with his new United teammates in Manchester when his visa is processed.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “As a club, we have followed Amad for a number of years and having watched him myself, I believe he is one of the most exciting young prospects in the game."

Diallo has signed a contract to the end of June 2025, with the option of an extra year.

United bought fellow teenage winger Facundo Pellistri from Penarol on the same day as Diallo but the Uruguayan moved to England straightaway and has played eight times for the Under-23s and Under-21s. Pellistri, 19, was an unused substitute in the Champions League wins over Paris Saint-Germain and Istanbul Basaksehir and recently rejoined first-team training.

Atalanta’s academy has been described as the best in Serie A by Italian sources and the Champions League quarter-finalists sold Diallo's Under-19 teammate, Dejan Kulusevski, to Juventus for £29.7m in 2018.

Kulusevski spent last season on loan at Parma and Diallo was heavily linked with a loan to the same club, with an Italian outlet claiming the links with United were ‘not true’ before the club confirmed a deal for Diallo on October 5.

Diallo became the youngest player, at 17 years and 109 days old, to score on his Serie A debut in Atalanta's 7-1 thrashing of Udinese last season and travelled with the squad to Lisbon for their Champions League last eight defeat to PSG in August.

United confirmed Diallo's new shirt number will be announced in the coming days.
