Manchester United confirm agreement with Sheffield United over Dean Henderson

Manchester United have confirmed Dean Henderson 's loan at Sheffield United has been extended until the end of the Premier League season.

Henderson has been a crucial player for the Blades this term, keeping 11 clean sheets in 29 league appearances.

Sheffield United have defied expectations under Chris Wilder this season and are challenging United for a place in Europe next season, although they have struggled since the campaign resumed.

Henderson's loan contract was set to expire at the end of the month and United could have significantly weakened their competition by opting to recall him.

Nevertheless, United have confirmed an agreement to Henderson's loan that will see the 23-year-old remain at Bramall Lane until the Premier League campaign is completed.

Henderson is expected to challenge David de Gea for the no.1 jersey at Old Trafford next season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes he will become the first-choice goalkeeper for both United and England.

Solskjaer said last week: "It's a different job to be playing for Sheffield United and for Man United, there are different, how do you say, he's got different roles and for me the two years he's had have been fantastic development.

"He's had to play with men, he's had to play against men, he's played in the Championship, and plays in a team that play fantastic football and exciting football.

"And as the stats show he's proved worthy of quite a few points. He's learning all the time, he's a passionate keeper that wants to be the best, he's developing, he's got good coaching there and, I've said it before, one day he'll be England No.1 and Man United No.1 and it's up to him to keep developing."
