Manchester United coach Solskjaer explains why he has changed Paul Pogba position

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will continue to vary Paul Pogba's position in his midfield to try and keep the opposition guessing.

The United boss has spoken to Pogba about where he plans to use him but said other teams were beginning to make plans to stop him when he plays in the more advanced role.

Solskjaer fielded Pogba in a deeper midfield role against West Ham recently, when he scored both goals in the 2-1 win, and on the left of a three at Barcelona in midweek.

The 26-year-old began the Solskjaer era playing close to the forwards but the Norwegian said he would continue to use Pogba in what he feels is the best position for that particular game.

"Everyone has got an opinion on Paul. And of course together with Paul we have sat down and discussed his positioning," Solskjaer said.

Manchester United starlet Mason Greenwood provides Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with timely reminder of his class

"We know he can play a 10, we know he can play a 6, we know he can play in probably his preferred position as one of the three in midfield, high like he did for us at the beginning, like he has done with Juventus.

"With France he has played as one of the two sitters, or one of the two central midfielders, with Kante. So that is the great thing with Paul, he can do both and what we have to to do with all the players is adjust to the games, what that game needs.

"Some games have needed Paul to drop back, sometimes it has needed him high up the field. You can see teams now thinking more about what Paul’s position is and trying to stop him in that position.

"He is no different to others in that we tweak his position a little bit for the team’s benefit."
