Manchester United coach Eric Ramsay linked with Blackpool manager's job

Speculation surrounding Eric Ramsay should not come as a great surprise to Manchester United given his stock as a coach.

Once again, the Welshman is being linked with a managerial role in the English Football League - at League One side Blackpool, who have been previous admirers of the 31-year-old. The Seasiders have just been relegated from the Championship and it remains to be seen who succeeds Mick McCarthy on a permanent basis, with Stephen Dobbie having taken interim charge at the end of the season.

Ramsay has reportedly emerged as a candidate though, with Blackpool having wanted to hold talks with the United man back in January. Erik ten Hag and co stepped in, though, to prevent a move from transpiring. Ramsay is clearly highly regarded at United - where his popularity with the players has been made common knowledge. He is also the assistant coach for the Wales national team, after getting the green light from Ten Hag earlier this year. Ramsay's pedigree and respect in the game is extremely high.

And with former United coaches thriving elsewhere in the EFL, the noise around Ramsay - and other astute backroom staff in the Premier League - was perhaps inevitable. Ex-United midfielder and caretaker boss Michael Carrick will hope to guide Middlesbrough to the Championship play-off final this week - and ultimately the Premier League. His impact at the Riverside has been remarkable after he replaced Chris Wilder in October of last year.

And the work of Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town has been widely documented. The Tractor Boys will play Championship football next year at long last, after a quite incredible end to their 2022/23 League One campaign. Ipswich scored a frightening number of goals and finished the season with an outstanding defensive record too - all under the watch of McKenna, who has made a huge name for himself in his 18 months at Portman Road.
